05 mai 2020- Second Lieutenant Yuri Acosta, Peruvian Army, student at the Saint-Jean Detachment of Canadian Forces Language School
My short experience in Canada
My name is Yuri Acosta, I was born in Lima, Peru, November 10th 1994 and I’m a Second Lieutenant of the Peruvian Army. My experience in Canada as part of the Military Training and Cooperation Program (MTCP) was amazing… short but amazing.
This was my first time studying English language abroad at the Saint-Jean Detachment of Canadian Forces Language School (CFLS) and sharing classrooms with people from all over the world. Canada is a very beautiful country, people are very friendly and the weather was very good. It was an amazing experience because I learned different traditions from many countries in the world. The way teachers help us learn English was excellent. I made new friends and colleagues from all over the world, and of course, my English speaking was improving every day!

Unfortunately, because of the pandemic COVID-19, the course was cancelled and all the foreign students were repatriated back home for the safety of everyone. It was a very emotional moment to say goodbye to all my friends and see the world suffer from a global illness. During the course, we stayed at the Saint-Jean Garrsion where we received all the basic attentions, health precautions and safety measures.
I want to say thank you to all the staff of the Saint-Jean Detachment of CFLS because they are such amazing and professional persons, they were always devoted and there for us.
I hope that one day I will have the opportunity to return to Canada to study again. Good luck to all my fellow students, all the teachers and staff, all the best to Canada!
